FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(HOUMA) – Houma native and Nicholls State guard Sumar Leslie is now officially a professional basketball player. The former Vandebilt Catholic High School standout officially dipped into the professional ranks, signing with Connecticut-based sports agency Macklin & Lovett Associates.
The Houma point guard said she chose the agency, who represents some of the top young female players worldwide, over “approximately a half-dozen” agencies who showed interest in her services.
“What I liked about this agency is that they were up-front, forthright and honest about the ways that they could help me progress into my professional career,” Leslie said. “I look forward to this next chapter in my basketball career and I truly believe William Lovett and his agency are the right people to get me started on the right path toward a successful career abroad.”
Leslie lands at the professional level after a highly decorated collegiate career. As a senior at Nicholls State University, the Colonel earned Second-Team All-Southland Conference honors, averaging 15.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. She also was near the top of the conference with 2.6 steals per game, while shooting 44% from the field and 40% from behind the 3-point line.
The Houma native said she is projected to begin her career at an upper-mid-level European league.
“Wherever they tell me to go, I will be ready,” Leslie said. “I have been working hard in the gym to stay in shape and in my honest opinion, whoever gives me an opportunity will not regret it.”
Macklin & Lovett Associates is a Connecticut-based agency that specializes in both men and women’s basketball. With a client list that includes female players like KeKe Carrier, Quianna Chaney and recent WNBA draft pick Tyra White, Leslie will be joining one of the upstart agencies in the world of professional basketball.
